What makes sound isolating earphones different from other earphones on the market? How does this technology work and is it safe to use?
Being a daily commuter on public transport, an MP3 player is at times a necessity. Listening to your tunes can distract from the journey and make it a more enjoyable experience. But there is always that familiar background noise of the doors opening and closing on the bus, the surrounding conversations and the drone of the traffic outside.

Turning the volume up can damage your eardrum and also means that the other commuters can hear what you are listening to. The answer to this is the sound isolating technology used in the new Jivo earphones.
Sound isolation makes it possible to hear greater detail at a lower volume than is possible with earbuds or most headphones intended for portable use. This means that all background noise you get while commuting is blocked out and all you hear is your favourite music with amazing sound quality. So what’s the difference between sound isolating and noise cancelling earphones?
Sound isolating earphones naturally prevent noise from entering the ear. The sleeve surrounding the earphone allows it to fit comfortably into the ear and its acoustic properties prevents outside noise from entering the ear. Sound isolating earphones do not require circuitry or batteries.

Noise-cancelling headphones use electronic circuitry to remove noise after it has entered the headphone earcup. The microphones inside each earcup sample the noise field, and an electronic circuit creates an inverse image of the noise signal, adding it to the music. The actual noise and the inverse noise cancel each other out. It requires batteries in order to operate and is larger, heavier and more expensive than the sound isolating earphones.
The Jivo sound isolating earphones come with three sets of ear-fit tips to ensure extra comfort and a secure fit, the perfect solution for all those music loving commuters!

Since late last year FM transmitters (commonly known as the iTrip or Jivo Utune) became legal in some countries in Europe. For so long these transmitters were illegal dating back to a law ratified many years ago. Many of us were using FM Transmitters ignorant of the law or simply not abiding by the law and having the hip iPod Accessory!
The law is currently under review in Ireland to allow the use of small short ranging transmitters such as the Jivo Utune. This includes requirements to allow for the use of low power short range FM transmitters in the 87.5 – 108 MHz band in Ireland subject to certain conditions being met.

So what is an FM Transmitter? In effect it is a miniature radio transmitter that transmits your music wirelessly to a radio or stereo device. It’s such a handy add-on to my iPod (works with all iPods bar the shuffle and other MP3 players). I used to listen to CD’s in my car all the time, but they got so scratched. The good thing about the FM transmitter is, that you no longer need CD’s in the car.
These devices are intended to provide a wireless link from the output of a personal stereo or mobile phone to a car radio or domestic FM radio.

So how does it work? You simply upload your MP3s and CD’s onto your iPod or other MP3 player. When in the car you connect the Jivo Utune FM Transmitter into the headphone jack of your device and simply tune your car stereo to any clear FM frequency. Driving couldn’t be made more enjoyable with your digital music playing away through your stereo. No scratched CD’s and no annoying ad’s from the radio.
This Jivo Utune can be charger and powered using your car cigarette lighter, but if you don’t have one you can also pop two AA batteries into the back of the device. It has a back-lit blue LCD screen particularly good for using at night time in the dark. With ten store locations for the channels, it means that all the program searches you carry out the first time will be stored. Even though that only takes a minute or two it makes using store locations are more convenient.
But the fun doesn’t stop in the car. The Jivo Utune can be used with your PDA, Laptop, PC and even mobile phone with the adapter cable… basically any device with a 3.5mm Stereo Headphone jack.
With the clever USB slot, you can charge other devices through the Utune by connecting via USB slot.

A trend amongst young people today is the desire to travel. World tours, trips to Australia, America and Asia are common on the agenda of the average twenty-something’s. An even bigger trend amongst teens, tween’s and the twenty something’s is communicating with friends and managing relationships. Generally speaking, young people embrace technology, are internet Saavy and enjoy communicating and staying in touch. Sites such as Bebo or the Meetingpoint have hit the world by storm. Tools for chatting such as instant messenger and Skype are quickly becoming part of our daily routine. With this in mind I would like to highlight this month’s featured product: the Jivo Skype Phone.

The Jivo Skype Phone allows you to make and receive phone calls over the internet for free. It simply plugs into the USB port or your computer or laptop and rings for incoming calls. You won’t need any external sound card to hear this VOIP phone ring. Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) is the term used to describe the technology behind making calls over the internet. Simply download the Skype software for free from www.skype.com, set up your profile and look for your friends. I spoke to my friend in Thailand using my skype phone and the line was crystal clear. Other functions of the device include viewing contacts which are on and offline and scrolling though your contacts. This is similar to using a mobile phone. The blue backlit LCD screen makes viewing contacts easy. You simply select your contact and call your friends for free by pressing the green “call” button.

The compact and light design of this VOIP phone makes it a must have on all your travels!

Everybody knows that the dark mornings and dark evenings leave us feeling tired and lacking in energy. Getting out for a walk during lunchtime or when there is still some daylight is recommended, so that you can absorb some Vitamin D. Taking your iPod with you is good company and a good motivator when walking. The Jivo Silicone Case comes with a sports wrap for literally wrapping around your arm, using a Velcro strip. Once you pop your iPod, Nano, 30GB or 60GB into the skin you have bought for it, it attaches easily through a slot in the back of the silicone cover. Getting out and about in winter with your iPod should boost your mood and energy levels!
